3 islands to visit during your island hopping tour in Langkawi

Besides the duty-free shopping, Langkawi’s beautiful beaches are the next best reason to travel to this tropical island in the north of Malaysia. Island hopping tour is undoubtedly one of the most popular excursions for those on a holiday in Langkawi. Here are three islands that holiday packages typically take travelers to.

1. Pulau Dayang Bunting

Like a scene from the movies, Pulau Dayang Bunting is a beautiful freshwater lake surrounded by tall mountains that are covered with lush green forests. This lake was actually formed when a large underwater cave collapsed many decades ago, and the scenic view here has pulled crowds from all over the world. Pulau Dayang Bunting, which is literally translated to “Island of the Pregnant Lady”, is also a part of UNESCO World Heritage Geoparks in Malaysia. If the name of this place makes you curious, it’s actually named after the outline of a woman who is approximately 7 months pregnant lying on her back that you can see when you look at the mountains at the fringes from the lake.

Pulau Dayang Bunting is typically the first stop for island hopping tour packages. Don’t forget to check out this site during your holiday trip!

2. Pulau Singa Besar

Pulau Singa Besar is a massive wildlife sanctuary located 17km off the Langkawi coast. Filled with unique rock formations, mangrove plants, and tranquil beaches, this island is nestled between Pulau Beras Basah and Pulau Dayang Bunting. The name of the island means "Island of Big Lions". Although you won’t find any lions here, unfortunately, you can watch plenty of golden brown eagles in the morning as they swoop down from the sky and feed on fish from the water. As a part of the Malaysia holiday package tour, the boatman will usually stop the engine and throw some chicken pieces out into the water to lure the eagles.

3. Pulau Beras Basah

Complete your island hopping package tour with a trip to Pulau Beras Basah. The smallest out of the three islands, Pulau Beras Basah is located 25km southwest of Kuah town and features expansive white sandy beaches, swaying palm trees, and clear blue sea against a majestic green mountain backdrop—just the perfect holiday material that Malaysia is famous for. The waters around the island are shallow enough for swimming, but do note that there’s a lot of monkeys on the island that might target your food and bags!
